Our wedding will be held at the Oceano Hotel & Spa in Half Moon Bay, which is about an hour’s drive from the South Bay and Santa Cruz, and a little over half an hour from San Francisco. Here’s a link to the map.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the atrium of the hotel ballroom. Guests can begin arriving any time, but please, no later than 1:00-1:15.
There is plenty of parking:
1) There is a very large parking lot behind the Gate House, which is behind the hotel. If you make the very first right into the parking lot after you turn onto Capistrano Road, bear left and drive until you see a little stairway (we’ll put some balloons up to mark it) leading up to a courtyard for the Shops at Harbor Village. There’s a white fence surrounding the Gate House – that’s where you’re going for the ceremony. If you come to a little road that let’s you turn left, you’ve driven right by the Gate House and you’ve gone too far. 🙂
2) Alternatively, there is parking in the hotel’s underground lot. After you turn onto Capistrano Road, the road curves to the right, and you’ll come to the Oceano Hotel in a matter of seconds; the garage entrance is just past the hotel’s main driveway. Take the elevator or the stairs up and you’ll be right in the lobby, where signs and friendly people will direct you where to go.
Our ceremony will be pretty short (we promise). Immediately afterwards, we would really like to take a group photo with all of our guests in the hotel’s beautiful lobby, after which the reception will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Gate House adjacent to the hotel. The party will end at 7:00 p.m. — it is a work/school night, after all. We know it’s a Sunday, but we chose the date for a very special reason.
There will not be a formal plated, seated meal. Instead, the party will be “cocktail” style, with lots of lounge seating, passed hors d’oevres, and food stations. (Don’t worry, there will be plenty of food, plenty of dancing and, of course, a big photobooth!) We will not actually be serving any alcohol at our wedding, but the hotel bar in the lobby will be open to anyone who chooses to imbibe. And to answer a question we’ve gotten from several family members, you are more than welcome to bring any beverages you wish from the bar; we just choose not to serve it.
The attire, for anyone who’d like guidance, is semiformal or “cocktail” attire. (We’re slightly enjoying the irony of traditional wedding lingo.) Of course, we don’t really care what you wear, we’ll just be honored to have you there to celebrate with us.
The weather in Half Moon Bay can be unpredictable at any time of year, and our wedding being in February, we’ve opted for the main events to take place inside in consideration of our guest’s comfort. There’s always the chance that it could be unseasonably warm, but ladies, please keep the weather in mind, and bring a coat or a wrap if need be. We will have a coat rack available.
Because we have so many people that we want to include — so much so that we’re pushing the venue’s occupancy limits — we’re asking that only children who are expressly invited attend. This is not because we don’t love your kids, and we hope that you understand. There will only be a few children there — family and family friends, and a handful of Jacob’s buddies whose families are also our friends.
We are having so much fun planning a fantastic party, and we hope that you’ll be able to celebrate our big day with us!
